One of my all time favourite films is “The Perks of being a Wallflower”. There aren’t many examples of when I can truly say that the film was better than the book but in this case that is my opinion.
Stephen Chbosky is an amazing author, one of which I idolise for this novel and its uniqueness. The characters are not flawless. This is what makes them so perfect. They are portrayed in a way that their flaws are pointed out, not in a negative way, but in a way that the reader can appreciate every character for who they are.
This film was one for me where as soon as i’ve watched it, I want to watch it all over again. I don’t want to include any spoilers in this as people may not have watched it or may want to watch it; however if your anything like me, then be prepared because this film really brings my emotions to the surface. I feel like its something that every teen or even adult can relate to. The stories of each character are all interesting and thought provoking. They’re are issues in this film that people encounter everyday and some a lot deeper than that.
I tried to explain to my boyfriend how much I love this film, I cry every time I watch it, sometimes they are happy sometimes they are sad tears but nonetheless I can’t help but let my emotions get the best of me. I asked him to watch it as we love to recommend film to each other and he came back to me and admitted he cried and told me how great it was.
One quote many people hear from this book/film is “we accept the love we think we deserve”. To many people this may be a nice little Instagram bio or tumblr quote to post on their blog but to others who have been in difficult relationships in the past or have felt worthless to the people they love the most this quote really speaks out because it explains a lot about self worth and self esteem.
So if you’re bored, or looking for a new film to watch, or just fancy a change from horror or actions films, I 100% recommend “The Perks of being a Wallflower”.
P.S : It has some absolutely brilliant music in it which you will inevitably have to download the moment you finish watching.
