November is upon us, and with the cold weather and dark nights comes the perfect opportunity to snuggle up with a blanket and get some reading done, so here we have four books I’ve set myself the task of finishing in the duration of this month.
The Martian by Andy Weir – After a space mission gone wrong, Mark Watney is left stranded on Mars. With no means of contacting Earth, and a limited supply of food, Mark must rely on sheer resourcefulness and determination to get him through the months, or even years, ahead. Goodreads rated 4.38/5 stars.
Nightfall by Jake Halpern – Marin lives on an island which only sees the sunset every twenty eight years. Before night falls, the island is evacuated by its inhabitants for fourteen years until sunrise. This year, however, just before departure, Marin’s friend goes missing, and she has to brave the dreaded Night to rescue him. Goodreads rated 3.50/5 stars.
The Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh – Every night the king of Khorasan takes a new woman to be his mistress, only for her to be found dead by dawn. When Shahrzad finds herself as his next victim, she vows to stay alive and end the king’s reign once and for all. Goodreads rated 4.23/5 stars.
Poison study by Maria V. Snyder – Yelena, about to be executed for murder, is offered a bargain: accept her punishment, or live out the remainder of her days as the Commander of Ixia’s food tester. Choosing life, she takes up her position in the palace – but her task becomes more complex than anticipated, and the line between life and death draws ever thinner. Goodreads rated 4.17/5 stars.
